FiOS will Offer MLB Extra Innings in 2009

FiOS TV has been sweeping the nation, offering a superb quality that sees more and more customers trading in their cable boxes and satellite dishes for the speed of Verizon’s fiber-optic technology. While Verizon is frequently adding to its channel lineup, sports fanatics, baseball fans in particular, have been deprived of the 24-hour access needed to keep up with their favorite teams. If it was the lack of Major League Baseball programming that kept you from ordering FiOS TV, the recent addition of MLB Extra Innings should serve as that incentive for upgrading to this amazing television service.

In November, 2008, Verizon announced that it would be offering the MLB Extra Inning package with its FiOS TV service, all thanks to the inking of a multi-year deal with the MLB. The two entities had been in talks for sometime and much to the delight of baseball fans, an agreement was finally secured. Per the agreement, Verizon will deliver baseball fans an estimated 80 games from around the league each week. With the stunning picture quality offered by FiOS TV, you will feel like you’re watching the game front row seat in the ball park rather than at home on the couch.

The introduction of the MLB Extra Innings package is one that fits nicely beside an ever expanding roster of impressive programming options. Subscribers will no longer be limited to local games as they have access to a plethora of MLB telecasts from around the country. With an even greater variety, Verizon is confident that this major move will appeal to baseball fans and result in more subscribers. Needless to say, fans who have already signed up with the service are thrilled that Verizon and the MLB finally came to terms.

In addition to MLB Extra Innings, the two sides also reached an agreement for Verizon to offer the MLB Network, which debuted on January 1, 2009. MLB Network is available to all FiOS TV subscribers through the Essentials and Extreme packages on channel 86. Though preseason play just began, Verizon plans to offer an HD simulcast of the MLB Network on channel 586 as well. Aside from delivering live games, MLB Network is also slated to air classic games, coverage of various baseball events, exclusive programming and tons of highlights. Now available in an estimated 50 million homes, this is said to the be largest launch in the history of paid television services.

The MLB Extra Innings and MLB Network packages both make complimenting additions to an extensive programming lineup that features well over 400 total channels, more than 100 of them in HD, and over 11,000 video on-demand titles each month. Such moves have made Verizon the fastest growing TV service provider in the country, labeled by J.D. Power and Associates as the top-ranked residential television service provider in the northeast region for the year 2008. FiOS is currently available in 14 states, allowing diehard baseball fans around the country to enjoy the best of Major League Baseball 24/7.
